Harry Chisholm Scholarship

The Ministry of Education, Training and Employment and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) have collaborated on an enhanced scholarship award opportunity for young Caymanians with an interest in the banking industry. The scholarship honours Harry Chisholm’s, MBE, JP, contributions to the success of RBC and his work to develop the local banking industry.
Royal Bank of Canada, which provides commercial and consumer lending and deposit services to domestic and international clients, has had a presence in the Cayman Islands since 1964.
Mr. Chisholm, who joined RBC in 1965, was at the heart of the company’s success in Cayman. He assumed roles of increasing responsibility with both the bank and its affiliated companies. He retired in 2007 as Vice-President and Country Head for the Cayman Islands after 42 years with the bank. During his years with RBC he was highly involved in the development of the banking industry in the jurisdiction.
In 2005 Mr. Chisholm was recognised by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, for his service to the Cayman Islands and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
The Harry Chisholm Scholarship will help a deserving young Caymanian pursue studies:
- Preferably in business administration, finance or a finance-related programme;
- Preferably at an institution in Canada; and
- Preferably within a four-year undergraduate degree programme.
The enhanced scholarship award of CI$30,000 will be funded both by the Ministry of Education and RBC. Each party will contribute CI$15,000 per annum for up to four years.
RBC will also provide a range of training and employment opportunities as part of the scholarship package. This will comprise of a mentoring programme for the successful candidate that shall include career guidance, choice of courses and money management. RBC will also include a work readiness component.
In addition, RBC will design and implement a structured summer employment programme for the successful candidate, of up to 12 (twelve) weeks per annum, for the first three academic years.
