Department of Education Services Multi-Agency Liaison Officer Angela McLaughlin, yesterday (6 April) presented five bound copies of the 2010 RBS Coutts Collection: Poems and Essays to the company's Managing Director David Foster. Each 83-page volume contains the best of last year's National Children's Festival of the Arts (NCFA) literary competition entries, as well as some photos from the 2010 NCFA arts and crafts exhibit. As corporate sponsor for the NCFA creative writing competition for the last decade, RBS Coutts (Cayman) Limited underwrites the cost of binding and publishing all awarded entries. "We are delighted to offer our support for the collection and we acknowledge and congratulate all those involved in the NCFA for their efforts over the last 29 years," said RBS Coutts' Managing Director David Foster. "Both locally and internationally our company is committed to supporting the arts. We are proud to be associated with the festival. It is particularly pleasing to combine our support for the creative arts in Cayman with support for the development of the islands' children." This 10th anniversary collection also has a special addition -- a dedication to the late Frederick 'Fred' John Speirs, who prior to his passing assisted annually with the proofing, editing, layout and photography for the publication. Mrs. McLaughlin explained that the publication was one of his many contributions to the festival. The 2010 RBS Coutts Collection: Poems and Essays contains 49 poems and 38 stories and essays. Of the 87 gold medals awarded during the 2010 creative writing competition, 31 went to infants, 17 to juniors and junior high students respectively, and two to senior high school students. Twenty of the pieces were Caymanian themed. Copies are available through the Department of Education Services at 130 Thomas Russell Avenue. (GIS)
