Teachers to be Honoured

Teachers - they nurture young minds, are dedicated to their craft and make learning fun!
Throughout the month of May the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment, along with Home School Associations (HSAs), Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), members of the community and private sector sponsors, will celebrate our country’s teachers under the theme Honouring Our Educators.
"We’re celebrating our teachers because they’re some of the most important persons in our society," Education Minister the Hon. Rolston Anglin, JP, explained.
"And while they are integral to the development of our people, their efforts often go unrecognised. As such we are thanking them all, in both the public and private systems, for their devotion and daily contributions to our children.
"We’re also encouraging everyone to join the celebration by doing something special for their teacher, their child’s teacher or a teacher who made a difference in their lives."
Events planned for the month include visits to local talk-shows Talk Today and Cross Talk, and CITN’s variety programme Daybreak.
A series of public service announcements thanking local educators will also air on Radio Cayman 89.9 FM and Breeze 105.3 FM throughout May. In addition, a Caymanian Compass feature will give local businesses and individuals a chance to send special messages to teachers.
The celebration will conclude with a special reception for Grand Cayman educators on Thursday, 27 May. Sister Islands’ teachers will be honoured two weeks earlier, on 13 May.
"I am delighted that through this initiative, our community will have an opportunity to let our educators know how much they are valued," Chief Officer for Education Mary Rodrigues commented. "It is they who help mould our young people and as a result, the future of our country."
She also expressed thanks to the HSAs, PTAs and private sector sponsors for supporting this celebration.
"We’re grateful to everyone that will partner with us on this important initiative. Education and the work of our educators touch all of our lives, and as a community we need to let them know they are valued and appreciated."
